One of the biggest stumbling blocks many companies have in utilizing video or creative services is cost. Well, people, I hate to tell you this but there’s a dirty little secret out there. Most of the bigger agency-types don’t even have photographers, videographers, professional editors or animators. Typically the work is contracted out to people just like me, which allows them to add a “project management” cost that, can at times double the cost of the project. On top of that you have to deal with the agency to communicate with the contractor on your behalf, leaving you with little control. How do you save money and still get a stellar product? Cut the middle man. It’s for this reason that we function under a business model that allows us to work one-on-one directly with our clients. If you’re like most companies today, it’s likely you need to find ways to cut costs. Don’t be afraid to have your agency send you an itemized bill that breaks out the cost of their subcontractors and their project management costs. You might be able to negotiate a lower price based on truly figuring out how much agency project management you need, and what you can manage on your own. At the very least you’ll have a clear idea of where some of your marketing dollars are really being spent.
